When trying to access an insert I received the following message:

You do not have appropriate access privileges (-5000) while creating "Plug-In Settings"

What do I need to do?

Check the permissions on the plug-in file that you were trying to load.

yes. it was a permissions issue, but what I don't understand is the why.

i always make a dedicated account for Pro Tools and give administrative rights.

do you know why that is not enough?

That would depend on what the permissions were and what you changed them to.

Can I join this one please? Just upgraded Pro tools 8 MP to Pro-Tools 10 - and new iMac 2.8 GHz i7. Cannot use Pro tools at all > You do not have appropriate access privileges (-5000) while creating "IO Settings"

The permissions on protools application itself and 'Read/Write'

Alarmed to find no formal support provided by Avid having just bought an expensive upgrade!

so after you setup the permissions for the hard drive and click the gear to apply to all.....you still have no permissions to change the i/o??????

I just migrated from WIN and I had the same permissions problems but after changing the hard drive and clicking the gear the errors are no longer a problem...
