Default rosetta w/ 888 question

I've heard the clock in the apogee is more accurate than the 888 and can drive the PT clock for better sound. Curantly I'm linking with usb only. Do I need word clock for this idea to work. Can it truly sound better? thanx

the Rosetta probably has way lower jitter spec's then the 888's (16bits or 24 ???).

linking with usb.....eeerrrrrrr, don't get that one quite.......anyhow, , supposing you use the rosetta to AD, and then go digitaly, AES/EBU I suppose to the 888, you need to choose one as the master and the other one as slave (as all the rest of digital periph's for that matter). Anyhow......my guess, the rosetta having the best jitter spec's, use it as the clock master. since I don't think the rosetta offers this superclock x256 thing over BNC, you'll have to do it with aes/ebu. connect aes output rosetta to aes input 1/2 on the 888 (has to be 1/2). set the rossetta on internal clock and in PT, hardware setup, set the 888 to digital input 1/2 and sync to digital. That should about do it.

Can it truly sound better. YES !!!!!......try it.......if you want to know the why and how.......check this one...... http://www.digido.com/
you will find an article on jitter by Bob Katz. I had to read it 25 times to understand half of it but........

Hell, it's 07.30 in the morning and I got to bed at 02.00......Damn the construction workers next door..........had nothing else to do..........someone correct me here if I'm wrong.

Sorry Chris, I ment AES/EBU and was wondering if that alone will do the trick or if I should be linking with word clock as well? I'm thinking it must be the same but this hole word clock thing is mistireous as you seem to have found out. I would think that even though the rosetta only does a/d, as long as PT stayes locked you'd still get the benefits during d/a. I dont have time to read this guys aritcle 25 times, but thanx for doing the research and sorry about the 5 hours sleep.

A short trip to the Apogee site would not go amiss. They have documents on almost everything you could think off.
Failing that ask Roger at Apogee tech
