Default digi coreaudio manager

I have not seen this happen before, but after i switched my mac on this morning I logged into Microsoft Entourage for my email and instantly this triggered the Digidesign Core Audio Manager to switch on. When i Quit the email the CoreAudio manager also quit. So i tried it again, and it seems that it is activated by the email software.

Is this normal behaviour?

I'm just concerned because it has not happened before.

I'm using 10.3.8 and the latest version of PT (6.9 cs1) but the PT was not on at the time.

regards

adam

Interesting. I'm running 6.9cs1 on MacOSX10.3.8 and have had a problem with my Mac since Thursday. (I am doing a fresh install of OSX and Pro Tools as I write.) I suspected the Core Audio had something to do with it. The funny thing is my mail and internet has been a mess as well. This has never happened before.

hi,
perhaps it´ll change behavior if you uncheck audiosignals in your ms-email-app-preferences... not sure, but i´d give it a try.

greets

i think the problem is because yesterday i used the protools hardware to listen to itunes and set the audio midi settings to use the 192 as the system audio output. It seems that unless you switch it back to built-in then when you open a programme that could use sound it will grab the interface for itself and trigger the CoreAudio Manager software.

This is correct. Email programs like Entourage can play sound, but use the System Preferenc>Sound control panel to determine what hardware they will use for playback.

Any chance we can get an "opt in" function back for the core audio driver? There's only a couple of apps I want to play through my digi hardware, the rest is just a pain in the arse. I know you can shift click to launch an app and bypass the core audio driver, but that's still a pain. What happened to only choosing the apps you wanted to come through the digi hardware and being able to open and close any program at will?

Cheers,

Iain

We had so many complaints about having to 'opt in' that we removed the capability, instead giving the 'hold shift' option.

I liked the opt-in much more, too. I seem to always miss the Shift-key and then have to wait for the driver to load/init/...

Of course a real multi-client (TDM and Core Audio at the same time) driver would be best... ;-)
