IBM Laptop won\'t record session in PTLE ! !
Help!!!
Symptoms - using one input and a guitar, with track set up properly and record enabled - can't get a level and when I try to record nothing happens. Works fine on my desktops. What could it be? I am a new Digi002 user with PTLE. My goal is to record using my Thinkpad, the IBM a31p model. I spent a week trying to get it to record just a guitar input. Gave up - installed the software on my desktop and everything works as it should. My laptop has 512M of RAM, plenty of disk space and more processing power than my desktop. I am using a 6 to 4 pin firewire cable instead of the 6 to 6 on my desktop. The laptop seems to communicate OK with the DIGI002 at start-up. I set up the session and the track the same on the laptop and the desktop - when I record enable on the laptop I cannot get a level reading. When I click the record button on the transport window the record button blinks - when I press the space bar nothing happens (the record button stops blinking). No other clues!! Any ideas at all on what I have screwed up on the laptop to prevent it from working!! Thank you all very much for any ideas!! |

Re: IBM Laptop won\'t record session in PTLE ! !
have you verified that you can playback a session? Load the sample session for this.

I have not tried that - I did not find a sample session - what directory should it install in?
Thanks - every little tip or hint is bound to help! Bob |

Re: IBM Laptop won\'t record session in PTLE ! !
It's on the install CD - you can copy it anywhere you like.

Re: IBM Laptop won\'t record session in PTLE ! !
I don't have an IBM A31p(P4), but I have an IBM A21p (PIII) and an IBM T41(Centrino). Checking to see if you can play the demo is a good idea. I have occasionally found that the playback engine doesn't work correctly, and switching the HW buffer setting in Setup can get it going. The 64 buffer setting is generally problematic. I may have to click play several times before something will happen. Try the higher buffer settings of 256-1024.
Also, make sure you have disabled onboard sound. This can also cause problems.
