serious beachball / hanging when switching back to PT10HD
HD3 Accel in magma chassis
Mac Pro dual quad 2.93 Nehalem OS 10.6.8 32 gigs RAM PT is hanging with spinning beachball for as long as 10-15 seconds when switching back to it from other apps like VEP and Email. sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. seems to happen whether I have a large session or a small one with empty tracks. Deleted prefs and database files, seems to have improved ever so slightly but still happening. ideas? Trying out the trial due to the MIDI output selector bug in PT9. Thanks much- j |

Re: serious beachball / hanging when switching back to PT10HD
I _think_ i figured it out... an imac on the same network was running a time machine backup to a NAS. I stopped that backup and it seems to be working now. I guess the network traffic was interfering with PT somehow. bizarre but at least its working now.

Re: serious beachball / hanging when switching back to PT10HD
J,
There's been a long standing issue with PT having to bow to the idiosyncrasies of the OS when it polls for hard drives (especially over the network) and the only reliable solution has been to "disable" the network ie: stop the machine you're working on from being part of the network so the poll'ing doesn't interfere with PT operation. I just turn off my Airport connection. Cheers Steve Bush www.music180.com/pros/5887 MacPro 4.1 (Nehalem) 2.26 8 Core, OSX 10.6.8, PT10HD, 14 Gig RAM, PCIe HD3, 192, Sync I/O, Midi I/O. |

Re: serious beachball / hanging when switching back to PT10HD
ehi guys!!! all running app must be closed while running PT and time machine not allowed, same as spolight, this also from previous PT version,
this is not from my experience but from Avid site, this apply also for other sequencers. |

Bonfi,

Studio J. Anyways, I went back and found the thread from a while ago where a few of us were discussing this issue with DTS. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=277616&page=4 DTS response 3rd from the top and 3rd from the bottom pretty much sum this problem up. Hope this helps (but it probably won't, as we're stuck with this performance it seems).
