Mbox & Tibook to replace AM3??
Hey Guys,
Been using my good ol' 8600 & AM3 card for years, usually for transfering audio from my Adats/DAT via spdif to ProTools with the AM3 (all controlled with BRC remote). I've been using a TiBook (G4-400) with PTools Free for about a year now. I transfer mixes done with AM3/8600 via network or Zip to the Tibook to make use of vastly quicker processing. I'm pretty tired of this transfering process, but I don't want to drop a few thousand on a magma / 001 set-up to work with the Tibook....so...this brings up a few Mbox questions I would appreciate some help with: 1) From researching "slower USB speeds" Mbox posts here, can anyone suggest if 1 or 2 track transfers via Mbox spdif are smooth in real-time or are there hiccups? 2) With my 8600, I often run PTools "on-line" to accept sync from my SMPTE/Midi converter which is plugged into a serial port. If I were to attempt analog or spdif transfer to Tibook with Mbox, would I be able to use a MIDI-to-USB adapter to allow PTools with Mbox to "slave-sync" as I'm doing now with 8600/AM3? Would I be maxing out the Tibook expecting it to run smoothly with Mbox in 1 usb port while running Midi to the second usb port? Looking forward to suggestions for proven USB-to-Midi adapters, and answers. Thanks. -John J.
