Default OMF import to PT9 - audio files won't link

Hi There,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've been using PT for over 10 years and have never had an issue I couldn't resolve myself...until now!! I found a thread dating back about a year where someone else was having a similar problem, but there was no clear resolution to be found. I'm hoping that will not be the case here - I like PT9 just fine and am not particularly interested in upgrading.

I'm trying to import some OMF's - just tests at this point to get our workflow sorted - for a project coming up in the new year.

The OMF itself seems to import fine; the tracks get laid in, and all the regions and fades are visible and the cuts seem to match those in the picture..as much as you can tell without seeing the waveform...

The problem is that the audio, though present in an additional folder (OMF exported using SEPARATE AUDIO option) will not link to the sessions/regions. If you ask it to do so automatically it will never find it...just spins forever. You can link it manually, but only file by file which is VERY slow and tedious. If I point PT toward the folder, it still doesn't recognize the Audio.

In an attempt to resolve this we have made a new OMF export using the ENCAPSULATED AUDIO option. This has worked fine, but I would prefer to use the other method. The reason is that FCP has a size limit on OMF's it generates which caps off at 2gb, which is not at all ideal.

If I can't get SEPARATE AUDIO OMF's to import smoothly we will have to work in segments, which is not ideal. Could there be something on the EXPORT end of this exchange that could solve this? Is this a known PT9 issue?

Any takers?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you session sample rate and bit depth match the omf. Every little helps!!

I have this happen with pretty much every OMF with external media I've gotten from Premiere.

In the Relink window:
1)Select your media files folder
2)Select ALL of the files in the "Files to Relink" window
3)Hit the Find links
4)Deselect Match Format and Match Duration and select Find by Name
5)Commit links

Works for me 100 percent of the time. Hopefully it'll work for you.

Me too. I had this problem a week ago and manually relinked all of them. I wasn't going to do that again. It seems to be an issue with how Premier makes OMFs. By the way this was in PT8

Thanks!

I am using PT12 and just bumped into this problem, it's alive and well in 2018.

The solution posted above by RecRoom worked perfectly.
I was looking down the barrel of manually loading over 150 files, one at a time. That would have been a few hours of my life that I'd never see again.

Many thanks for this super useful tip!!!!!!!
