/3GB switch, 7.4 Altiverb 6 and Quicktime
Tried the /3GB switch today with PT 7.4 HD ( I have 3 gigs ram) and got constant crashes of protools on loading.(as it got to reading prefs mainly)
I trashed prefs etc etc ..no joy. After a LONG time of fiddling about removing plugs and putting them back , I narrowed the culprit to Altiverb 6 . I found a post elsewhere , which implicated quicktime (which altiverb uses) and sure enough it seems to be involved. I have the latest QT , and just going to its own quicktime player update menu spectacularly crashes it out. After a QT crash , protools will not load again till a reboot. Similarly if Altiverb 6 is in the plugs folder, PT will not load (Im assuming its calling QT) So it seems that QT and the 3GB switch are not happy bedfellows... any thoughts from anyone on this ...who is using the /3GB switch in PT AND using altiverb 6? cheers Bill P London |

Re: /3GB switch, 7.4 Altiverb 6 and Quicktime
Do you actually need QT for Altiverb to run? I certainly don't know this for fact, but was under the impression that QT was only used to display the pictures and images and that the impulses themselves would work fine without QT. You just wouldn't have the pretty picture or diagram of the impulse source.
If that's true, just uninstalling QT might be a temporary fix until some cs releases or Altiverb updates come around. |

Yea but as far as Im aware protools iteslf actually needs quicktime to load !
But it would seem its not called unless you use video maybe? But Altiverb looks like it calls QT as its being read by Pt at load. Anyway removing altiverb does the trick for now...not great though ! cheers Bill P London |

Re: /3GB switch, 7.4 Altiverb 6 and Quicktime
I'm running LE 7.1 without QT.
Not sure how that'll pan out for your plugs tho.

Re: /3GB switch, 7.4 Altiverb 6 and Quicktime
I use the /3gb switch with PT 7.3.1 and ocassionally Altiverv 6. No problems.
The only problem I had with A6 is that I needed to change to 32 bits video in order to display the A6 windows correctly. But that was it. Ric |
