Default Akai DPS12 + Pro Tools LE

About 4 years ago I bought the Akai DPS 12 mixer/recorder as my first entry into recording music. The next step was using my pc to record things, so it is just gathering dust at the moment.
I recently decided that I'm going to buy the 001.

What I'm wondering is this: would it be possible to use the faders and pan pots of the Akai to control Pro Tools? Maybe through midi?

It's not that I mind sliding the faders using my mouse, but I feel a bit bad about that thing sitting in the corner when a few years ago I spent so much money on it. Using it like this would make it useful again.

(Btw I haven't even checked if the Akai is capable of sending that information as midi or otherwise, but my question is purely about the Pro Tools part of the equation.)
