Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
Updated to 11.1.3 this morning from 11.1.2 and all of a sudden the Avid Video Engine isn't working. Won't load - gives me a "timed out" error message. Anyone else have this maddening problem? Same video files and sessions I was using this morning before the upgrade (which was supposed to fix a bunch of video engine problems!).

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
Don't be harsh. They are working hard on a realise of Pro Tools v12.
They will introduce a revolutionary new SAVE (Super Avid Video Engine) for "no brainer" $600 upgrade price from PT11.

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
Sensible question - can I ask the installation history?
When you first installed 11 did you format your system drive and reinstall the OS from scratch, making sure you had all the correct drivers installed for GPU etc, BEFORE installing ProTools? I would recommend this course for anyone who thinks ProTools "isn't ready". Install it from scratch completely. Do not upgrade from 10 or earlier. Doing so just completely messes up the install. Format, reinstall the OS, making sure you have all the correct 64bit drivers. Until you do this, then I can guarantee you won't get decent performance.

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
Yeah…
You should not even install PT11, just copy it to the Application folder. You only need to install the HD driver. However in some cases one may want to try uninstall PT10 as it can mess up together (e.g. short cuts created in System Preferences will not work if both versions present). The fresh install on a brand new drive with all supported software and on approved system will not solve the existing video problems. I did it on multiple computers and the result is the same. But then again there is a degree of tolerance which may work for some and for others could be acceptable. Especially when comparing to a working well v10.3.9 HD. However the OP problem seems to be odd. Have you installed the HD driver? Its a separate install.

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
No problems here. AVE seems to be more responsive and reporting correct frame rate. I have the same system except that I am still on 10.8.5
What kind of video file/ codec is in your session? When I have had AVE problems in the past, sometimes I will delete all of the preferences, restart, and then open a new blank session. I will try importing my video into that session and start setting some of my normal preferences before I open an older session. |

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
This drive that I'm working on was a FROM SCRATCH Pro Tools 11/Mavericks install. I left 10 behind on a separate boot drive. I mix for picture and It's been working perfectly for months. The session I'd been working on was working perfectly for weeks until yesterday morning when I went to 11.1.3.
I've been asking editors to send me H.264 Quicktime files and they work just fine. And yeah, I did install the 11.1.3 HD drivers. Now, here's the kicker. I went back to a Time Machine backup from before the 11.1.3 update and I still have the same problem!! How did it follow me back? |

Re: Avid Video Engine not working in 11.1.3
Have you trashed the preferences?
It still helps even in a dark v11 era.

As long as you are using the co-install compatible version of 10 you should be fine and you can switch between them just fine. This is all fully supported. frank.
