Correct. From the What's New doc...

"HEAT now available in both DSP and Native formats for Pro Tools HD Software"

But "Native Formats" doesn't mean it needs an Native HD pcie/tbolt card then right? A 100% clarification/confirmation would really go a long way here!

This is great news if true Jeffro

Yep, that's how I understand it.

People using the term HD native are confusing others as it seems like you need an HDN system, which AFAIK you don't. You just need HD software.

Yes thats exacly true. We need to separate HD Software and HD Native w/hardware as people throw these terms around in a lot of situations

I still hope Avid will merge both versions into One PTHD software in the future.

... one can always dream right

Yes, the product and format naming similarities are confusing the issue. How about...

Starting with 12.1, HEAT is an option in Pro Tools HD Software regardless of the hardware it's running on. (Requires licenses for both Pro Tools HD and HEAT.)

This is good news! That means I will have heat on my Laptop macbook pro as well with out the HD hardware. Cool! This is getting better and better! This is the only benefit for me in this new update hopefully the other features like collaboration and track freeze are not to far off.

The update is great news for Vanilla users and HD-Native users. It brings little if not nothing for HDX users.
