Default need help with the S sound

I am using pt 7 on pc and i am having trouble while mixing a song with the s words. It becomes piercing to the ear but if I turn some of the highs down it takes away from the mix in that particular audio track. Is there a plugin i can use to stop this and how do I use it?

Of course there is: it's called a De-esser.

You might also want to use a pop filter. That can contribute to the softening of the harsh sounding sibilance. (that's a tongue twister)

Yes there is a plug for this. Strangely enough it's called a de-esser. You'll find it in the dynamics section since it's basically just a band-specific compressor.

thanks but how do you use it? Also can it be used on the master fader for the entire track?

I wouldnt use it on a master fader....but then again....we are in the business of trying anything once!!!

Next time you record: listen during the vox tracking to see if its a style thing...you may need to coach your singer a bit on mic. technique. If all else fails the De-esser can work miracles. Youll have to play around with it to get it to do what you want.

Try one of the presets of the Digirack de-esser on the vocal track. If it's not enough just change it a little. Be careful not to make the vocal lisp.

And yes... get a pop-filter or use the penn-trick!
