Swapping Ram in iMac G4 700 Flat Panel
Anyone swapped out the primary ram in one of these flat panel iMacs yet? I was told by the Mac store not to try it on these. I tear apart and build alot of PCs, but no experience with Macs yet. Anything to be aware of before diving into this project? The computer I'm working on has 128MB PC100 in the primary slot inside and 256MB PC100 on the outside slot. I'm swapping the 128MB for 512MB PC133. Is there much benefit to upgrading the ram from 384MB to 768MB for office applications in OS 9.2? Just getting alot of freezing when performing print functions or trying to run queries in our office management software. Also freezes when loading PDF files or working in IE.
Thanks, Allen |

Re: Swapping Ram in iMac G4 700 Flat Panel
The inside ram is pretty hard to get at. Nothing on a PC equates to changing it. After you remove the bottom ( 1 screw ) you have to remove the plate which is involves a floating grease seal and springs. I took mine to a service dealer and I usually will try anything. I have never taken a computer in before. It also would have voided my warranty.
If it was out of warranty I would have gave it a try though. Good Luck Jimi |
