Playback Engine
Newbie here, hope this is easy.
I'm running PT 12.4 on Windows with a saffire pro 26 interface. I see 1024 as the only option for H/W buffer size - any ideas why there's nothing else to choose from? Screenshot is attached. Thanks. |

Re: Playback Engine
PT 12.3.1 is better for windows,
What Windows are you using? 7/8/8.1/10? W7x64 here... i have RME hdsp9632 and buffer size works ok. also have Lynx AES16 but i have not tested yet. probably works ok. Buffer setting in PT12 can only be changed from the soundcard driver in the soundcard controller software. Last edited by JuanPC; 01-02-2016 at 10:38 PM. |

Re: Playback Engine
Set it in Mix Control. From the LS56 user guide p. 27:
"ASIO Buffer Size (Windows Only) Set the buffer size of your ASIO driver here. A small buffer size will in result in lower latency at the expense of increased CPU usage. A high buffer size will result in a higher latency but with lower CPU usage. If you are using lots of virtual instruments and effects processing in your DAW project, and the CPU usage is high, then increase the buffer size to permit lower CPU usage." Note: 64 works great on both of my rigs.

Re: Playback Engine
So I tried setting it at 64, and I get lots of clicks and pops in playback.
Going up to 128 fixes that. |

Re: Playback Engine
That might be some other issue. What firewire card? Check the firewire setting in Mix Control. Are you recording to a separate drive? Have you done all of the Avid recommended system optimizations?

Re: Playback Engine
This is the Firewire card:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00 In device manager it shows up as: Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller My protools sessions are on a second hard drive (not my system drive). I am on Windows 10, which I know isn't yet certified for PT 12. Maybe that's my issue. It works fine in 128 though. I have gone through the Avid system optimizations and done all of them (I think). My system is: Windows 10 x74 Core i3 550 @3.20 GHz 12 GB Ram Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 Interface M-Audio BX8 Monitors |

Re: Playback Engine
Is your recording drive internal or external? Specs on drive? Try different FW settings in Mix Control.

Re: Playback Engine
And make sure your Saffire is NOT used for Windows sounds/audio. Use your onboard soundcard as the default for Windows sounds/audio.
Cheers,

Re: Playback Engine
Here's the hard drive I use for recording (and other things):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...rch_detailpage It's a 2TB seagate hybrid drive - sata internal. I'm not using my saffire for my general PC audio - i am using the onboard sound card and separate speakers for that. |
