I have not had the luck with the "Play" Engine in RTAS that some have had.

Play 2.0 works nearly flawlessly on both Mac and Win for me.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Close, re-open sometimes 2-3 times before it works, but to me it's worth it. Shouldn't be that way but for some orchestrations, I just have to have it.

The core samples are merely good but not awesome. The GUI is awkward. The PLAY engine is much less reliable than most others, even now. Updates are infrequent and thin on bug fixes and improvements. Customer service is among the worst of any music-related company. The owners are arrogant and even insulting to their customers (never to me personally but I've read plenty of horrific correspondences and word-of-mouth stories).

Other than that, they're great.

And... don't try to attach an Icon or any other ethernet controller to you Pro Tools in combination with PLAY.

I got ministry of rock some weeks ago, but it has been a disaster on my system. Lot's of crashes and no luck running it properly.

Besides I was not impressed with the sounds so I uninstalled the whole thing. The VI is trying to emulate real instruments, but neither this VI can compare to the a real guitar or bass. Some of the basses are ok, but trilian is better. It is pretty realistic, but I'd rather play a real bass, without taxing the cpu, than hogging (Iiiih, iiih) it up with the massive trilian.

+1 on Trilian for the basses.

However, I have EWQL for some time now. With the previous version of Play I had to follow a specific workflow to even get it running in PT but with the latest Play version I'm very happy.
One thing to consider though is it likes your cpu very much. Just yesterday I had an instance with the 70 string section loaded and some horns on a seperate channel. The moment the midi data got a little crowded the cpu usage in Play went all the way up to 80%. I'm using the i7 950 with HT, so go figure. I'm used to print instruments seperatly so I'm good with that. I have to say I tracked this at 256 buffer.

I really like the WordBuilder app for the Symphonic Choirs. The only downside with this is you gotta search yourself for the midi loopback adapter. This should have came out of the box if you ask me. The ones you can find are also years and years old, like no more development is put into this.

Some time ago I discovered a little flaw in one of the Yamaha Gold Piano sample. Playing a long specific sustainend note made suddenly a voice speeking saying 'lets try a softer one'. Hillarious, I reported this to EWQL. I got a response very quickly saying they will solve this asap. (don't know when though, and I really don't care to much either)

All I can say is I'm using it a lot and am happy with the purchase. In my signature all the stuff I got from EWQL.
