Default backups to cd

I got a question for all, How do you backup your session work?
I currently have an adaptec SCSI card on my Protools LE Digi002R system with a HP Surestor DAT24 tape drive.

it is very reliable , only problem is if I want to send a session out to another studio for remix/mastering, they have to have a Dat24 drive and use the same software.

what if any good backup utilitys are out there that will backup to CD-R, I know I can split the Audio files across a couple CD's myself and just create a data CD's from within windows, but would like to find something more automated.

winzip will allow you to split sessions so they can span across a cd. i think the best way is to get a dvd burner. DVDr's stor 4.7Gigs of data which for me is enough to backup an entire album

yes, DVD-Rs, I dont know about an entire album of music for myself, but 3 or 4 songs at least.

the most cost effective reasonable backup method I think.

dont forget to remove all the audio that you aren't using before backing it up. Otherwise it's jkust a waste of space.

A couple of months ago, someone mentioned a Sony DVD burner that would be out about now that would hold up to 9gb of data. I did a minimal search and found one Here....It holds 8.5gb of data and the price isn't bad at all, but I bet the DVD's are relatively expensive...Just another option to consider...

Thanks Guys, Yes I thought about the DVD-R option as well, I did some price checks yesterday at the local store, best price I found was 129.00 for the drive and 17.95 for a 25 pack of DVD-r's

Not bad I don't think, but will have to save for it.

Thanks again

Make sure the drive can support whichever DVD format (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc) which you want to burn.

Anyone have a source for printtable DVD+R media at a reasonable price BTW? Fry's only carries DVD-R printable which isn't compatible with my DVD-A burner and software.

Pricewatch DVD-R media from 430 for 100 spindle..

For ongoing backup we use 2Firedocks. To archvie finished recording multitracks we recommend both a mechanical (HDD) and nonmechanical)DVD-R) to our clients.

When sending files to another studio, it is advised to send two separate copies, and to verify both before seinding.
