Remo ambassadors.

Emperor on kick, diplomats on resonant side of toms.

Use a small piece of felt on the snare and the obligatory kick pillow. Run the toms wide open; no dampening.

Have a five inch opening on the resonant head of the kick; gives you some rebound and resonance.

Tried Evans and pin stripes over the years but never liked the response or the slap you get.

Been using Vic Firth Iso headphones. Iso is great but sound quality is so-so. Anyone using the EX 29's or have any recommendations for Iso phones with better drivers, frequency response?

Vic Firth nylon tip 5B's- Crispier on the cymbals.

General purpose all around use:

Toms - Evans EC2 Coated top, G1 clear bottom
Main snare - Remo Coated CS top
Side Snare - Remo Renaissance RA
Kick - Batter side: Evans EMAD2 most live things, Remo Coated Powersonic Bass at home or small places and for recording (it's a 24" so I feel the love )
Kick - reso side: Evans Reso with custom graphics & 4" mic hole. (gotta look at a Mays)

Other things may call for other heads.. I'd love to try the Aquarian X's on the toms next time I record them.. but who knows... I'm doing OK right now.

My RC's were made for pinstripes.. but they always sounded a tad thuddy to me.. I like a bit of life in the drums

Have you tried IE's? (in-ears)

I use Westone EM2 (I think they are) dual driver IE's.. they absolutely rock for everything... When I need a bit more isolation I chuck on a pair of industrial ear muffs. I can keep the volume at my ears at a REALLY quiet and clear level and still lay into the kit if I need to, and still hear everything. No damage to the ears that way..

There was a time when I used to use a small side-fill PA just for my monitors... it was larger than a lot of bar-band main pa's... I now have a bit of tinitus.. so I do whatever I can to protect what I have left.

(I wonder how my liver feels about those days )
