Default mid 2010 mac/ how far

Good day everyone,

I would greatly appreciate guidance on a move i'm making. Just acquired a 2010 mid Mac Pro 2.8. Running PT9.0.6.

How far can I upgrade (OS), and PT, without loosing all my cherished plugins, without switching to the new AAX format ?, or does that only apply to HDX.

Thank you for your valuable time.

Please forgive, but the capability grid can get overwhelming.

PT10 is the last version that uses rtas and aax32 aswell so you can use the plugins you got in PT10 either as rtas or aax32 bit.

The last PT10 version is 10.3.10 which will run great with OSX 10.8.5. no doubt.very stable and got a lot of songs out for us a few years ago

Christopher, thank you very much for the info. Yeah I can't see letting go all my plugins I relied on for all these years. I know it seems I'm missing out on the ability to utilize all my 32gigs of ram not using PT12, but I never really had hiccups tracking 18tracks at one time. Only issues with Melodyne transferring. Thanks for other recommending X5690 CPU, I plan on upgrading that soon.

Okay I've upgrade to 10, so I will probably move to 12 if I'm able to with my 2010 Mac.

Been a long time coming, but but I'm looking to buy now is an Aurora16 used. From what I gather through firewire I'm only going to be able to use 8 channels, if I'm understanding correctly. Any suggestion on a card to help me achieve 16channels will greatly be appreciated, thanks folks.
