General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Hello all, I hope this finds you well and safe!
So specifically, I have this lag issue with
As you can see, this adds up to one very frustrating editing experience. Every function contributes to an extra beat of time. My task is to tightly cut out approximately 50 words out of a single noisy recording, times 150 subjects. There is a near and far mic and both need individual de-noising treatment. The session audio is 24 bit / 96Khz and I am editing 8 tracks simultaneously. However, only 2 of the 8 tracks are active as "voices". The remaining tracks are still visible but de-activated. There are no plugins running. All processing is happening in Audiosuite. Given the horse power of my DAW, I am shocked that this is happening at all. Then again, I haven't used Windows in years so I may be missing something. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance. I should add, this is a progressive thing that gets worse with time. From opening the session to a few hours in, it goes from slight to excruciating

Try going into Preferences and UNchecking: “Separate Clip” Operates On All Related
Takes. As my clips built from editing, the time it took to separate at cursor also climbed. Unchecking this allowed the editing time to be instant, as it should be. Found this advice in another Thread.

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Hello the Weed, I had a look and that option is not checked. But thank you for the suggestion. At times, the lag is almost a stutter until it snaps into place. Sort of choppy-like.
I have never encountered this much lag in a system this powerful. Then again, perhaps my tolerance has gone down for such occurrences. There are moments when it takes a full second before responding to a command though it is still quite random. |

A CD or DVD in a drive? Is the video engine on or off? What is the buffer size?

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Good questions. There is no CD/DVD drive in this machine.
Regarding buffer size, that is a whole other can of worms and I intend to field a separate thread after exhausting all options first. In short, 256 - 2048. I am changing the buffer size constantly due to clicks, pops, and distortion commencing. It is a UAD Apollo x6 TB 3 device. The temporary fix for this problem is to simply switch the buffer size in either direction until it creeps in again. It is quite random. Because I edit fast, it tends to choke up the system. The faster I go, the more the lag there is. If I edit slow, the lag is very slight but still there |

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Have a look at this thread, there may be something there to help.
I have read online that some on Windows are having issues with UAD drivers.

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Can I suggest you also check your GPU driver. Protools is very picky about this parameter. Last week I opened up my HP Z4 workstation to do some work. There wasn’t much to the session yet Protools kept stopping. I looked in the HP system advisor and it showed that the graphics driver I had was no longer supported. Updated the driver and all is well again.
The strange thing for me is the driver that I had was previously the right one then for some reason the next day it wasn’t. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
Thanks for the tip Mr. WEED!
Yogi, good point. I did need to update the driver but sadly, it changed nothing. Still slow response to fast editing. Even if this cannot be improved, it would be nice to know what it actually is that is causing the lag. Thanks |

Re: General Lag issues in Pro Tools Ultimate - Windows 10
I tried 2020.3 and also noticed that editing was very slow on Windows, especially when editing multiple tracks together. I also noticed it had to do with automation since disabling "automation follows edit" made it quick again.
I went back to 2018.7...
