Default 11.3 - problems opening some sessions

I've updated to to 11.3 - my rig is as follows :

10.10.1
Macbook Pro 17" Early 2011 / 2.2GHz i7 / 8GB RAM
SSD startup disk
Internal SATA 7200RPM media drive

I've got a few sessions that don't seem to be able to open properly. They're around 30-40 tracks each, fair amount of plugins (about 50% CPU load at peak on 11.2.2). When I open them, the interface opens but doesn't *quite* finish drawing (some of the numerical values at the bottom of the faders don't fill in) and I get the beachball forever until I force quit.

Things I've tried with no effect :

Trashing prefs / restarting machine.

Creating a blank session and import all of the session data.

Starting session without plugins and gradually re-instantiating the plugins (eventually the beachball returns, but never on the same plugin it would seem).

I've opened a few other sessions with no problems. I haven't got my main media drive with me so I can't do any particularly extensive tests.

Anyone experienced the same? Any ideas of other stuff I could try?

Cheers all!

I'm still betting some 3rd party plugin is the culprit. Try this few more times and make a note of which plugins seem to cause the trouble. Then move them to unused folder and try one more time. If it opens nicely, then those plugs you moved away need to be updated.

Possibly - but everything was working fine in 11.2.2/11.2.1 previously.

I've been struggling with this for hours now - trust me, there's no single plug-in that's causing this to happen. When I start with all plugins disabled and start to re-instantiate them all, the beachball doesn't happen when a particular plugin is enabled. Desperately annoying.

I must say, along with all the new licensing bull****, issues like this are really starting to make me look at other DAW options. Depressing, considering the money and time I've sunk into Digi/Avid over the years.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Update - after about the tenth attempt, I managed to get all of the plugins turned back on. This time I did each one individually, as I had before - but I turned on all the instances of the same plugin first, if that makes sense. Anyway, seems to be working.

But the main thing - I'm so glad they fixed the real time bounce -9173 problem. That was driving me potty!

Having used many DAWs over 25 years, I can guarantee you that you won't get a smoother ride with anyone else. The grass always seems greener, but I can tell you now it's either AstroTurf or mud...

So I downloaded all the latest versions of plug ins and reinstalled - that seems to have cured it. Someone on another part of this forum suggested removing the HAL driver, as it seemed Guitar Rig and Amplitube could maybe have been the problem. I did this as well and they both work now (hadn't reinstalled Guitar Rig)
