I have had limited experience with a Portaflex, and all of that on a beater. I don't really know or care if it sounds like any Ampeg hardware. I was sold quickly.

Jack, you must be disappointed after the wait for this to drop.
Very disappointed; I had no idea which variant PA did for the UAD platform and if I did I wouldn't have waited for this. You could say I'm a bit of a snob about this but having had a real B15N Portaflex I know what I want. Keep in mind I'm not ticked at PA for modeling what they modeled and it may well capture the tone of the pair of amps modeled it's just not what I wanted. I've been demoing it for a few hours now comparing it with the PA V4B I purchased from them last month and it's not the insta-purchase the V4B was.

I'll wait on the purchase to see what the other two Ampegs coming over the next 2 weeks sound like.

I'll say one thing in it's favor though - it's hands down WAY better sounding than the two B15 variants IKMM has (they do both the Heritage and a B15 model that has quad 6L6's in the finals - the one Bootsy Collins uses). And you don't need huge levels on the input to drive it like the IKMM ones.

The UAD site doesn't mention "heritage" until the description where they say which specific one it models. https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/g...mpeg-b15n.html
It is a good one. I stopped trying others when I got this one. One of the other ones has a fairly decent modern bark to it, but I am far from the one whom anybody should trust on bass tone advice.

The Herbert is pretty sweet. The mid response is better for me than the VH4, thanks to the Mid Cut, but the tone is very similar to the VH4.

Full review for those interested.

Next up is the Ampeg SVT-3Pro on the 12th

Its currently only available for UA interfaces.

I'm thinking of grabbing the PA B15-N, which is on sale for $29. I'm wondering what you think of it now, having had it for a while. I lean toward an old school sound and use fretless quite a bit.

B15-N would be good for the old school sound. My preference is the SVT-VR or SVT3 Pro.

You can always demo them each to see which you like.

And here's a video showing each of them

Plugin Alliance Ampeg B-15N vs SVT-3PRO vs SVT-VR vs V-4B - BASS AMP WAR

It's a great time to stock up on PA plugins for those who don't have the MEGA Bundle. $29 for ANY plugin is insane.

Thanks so much for the reply and the video link. I got an email with two separate codes, so I can get two for $29 each. Originally I had the SVT-VR in my cart, but at that price I decided to opt for both the B-15N and SVT-VR. I've used the hardware versions in commercial studios, so I think I'll be most comfortable with those.

Thanks again for weighing in.

You're going to have to do two separate orders with one plugin per order.
