Default Projectmix i/o -9073 hard drive error

So i just got a projectmix i/o which I am running on my 15 inch macbook pro. I did my first recording session on it yesterday and it worked very well for a while then I started getting this error that said:

"DAE can't get audio from the drive fast enough. Your drive may be too slow or fragmented or a firewire drive could be having trouble due to the extra firewire bandwith or CPU load. (-9073)"

I pulled up the CPU meter and pro tools and that was not peaking at all and I tried increasing my hardware buffers and all the playback engine options.

I am assuming that this error means that trying to run these sessions on my internal hard drive of my macbook wont work now that I have a projectmix. Does this mean I have to upgrade to a high speed firewire external hard drive then?

If anyone can help me out with this and clear up what it means let me know. Thanks a ton

bay an ExpressCard/34 slot firewire port "400" and connect an external firewire hard drive to it (7200rpm)

Hi.....you might wanna note that the Pro Tools Documentation says while you can actually record on system drives but it's REALLY HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED! Go get yourself an external quality firewire HD & it has to be the high speed ones (7200rpm)
Cheerios!

I, too, am getting the following error message every once in awhile (usually when I MOST don't want it to happen!):

"DAE can't get audio from the drive fast enough. Your drive may be too slow or fragmented or a firewire drive could be having trouble due to the extra firewire bandwith or CPU load. (-9073)"

I'm running a MacBook Pro 2.0ghz with 2 gigs of ram and am sending files to an external 300gb Seagate Firewire 400 hard drive.

I'm wondering if using an Firewire Express card will speed up file transfer or is the card just going to give me more firewire ports.

Is there anything else I can do to eliminate this error?

Thanks

An express firewire card will give you a whole other route to push data through. If you are using Firewire 400 for recording and for storing data, it might be saturated. If you got the express firewire card, you could keep the macs built in firewire open all for recording, and the express can handle saving the data.
