Default Pro Tools 9.0.6 on Mountain Lion Issue

I just got a new Apple Macbook pro laptop it's running Mountain Lion.

13-inch: 2.5 GHz
2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
4GB 1600MHz memory
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000

Audio Drive: Glyph GT050Q Firewire 800

It comes pre-installed with Mountain Lion but it has this new feature when you go into recovery mode it will log into Apple and download Mountain Lion so I can't use a Lion disc to erase the drive and install as it blocks you downgrading.

I see 10.0.3 of Pro Tools is Mountain Lion compatible but I don't really want to spend more money on another upgrade so it works with this OS. Pro Tools 9.0.6 works fine for me now. When is a version for version 9 coming which will work on Mountain Lion? I tried 9.0.6 but I was getting CPU pverload error messages on creating a few secs of signal generation and trying to play it back through the Mac speakers.

Thanks,
Leo

Is there a thread on getting PT9 to work with Mountain Lion, or if there will be an update?

My disc simply won't install and there is no update on the website for the DVD version. Rather frustrating to have Avid throw my money down the drain like this.

I upgraded to 10.3.2 and did all the optimisations listed for the Mac for Pro Tools and when I am using Xpand and cycling through my sample it crashes Pro Tools. Plus I am getting CPU Overrun errors now.

Hi,

What are you're playback engine settings? Can you list them all here!!

Also 10.3.3 is out now. Not that that's you're problem, but worth updating to the latest.

Did you uninstall PT9 and trash prefs before installing PT 10?

Hi, yes on principle I don't want to throw more money at Avid to upgrade to version 10 just to have a working system, I want PT9 to work. So there have been no developments at all?

Hi,

Some users are running PT9 on ML but it's not supported!!

What computer do you have? Can you install Lion on it?

Have you registered your software with Avid and do you have an Avid account? If you do then you can download 9.0.6 from your account and try installing that! It's unlikely the origial install disk will work on ML it's just too old for the latest apple OS which has stricter install criteria.

I've been searching around, and it seems like Pro Tools 9.0.6 works with Mountain Lion for some people, but not for others. Officially though, according to Avid, it's not really supposed to be compatible. So far, it's not working for me. I keep getting the error:

Could not create a new document because You do not have appropriate access privileges (-5000) while creating "IO Settings".

It seems that for some people it just magically works without issues. I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out if there is a way to make it work or not--it'd be awesome if I could, so I wouldn't have to drop the $300 to upgrade. For me, it is possible that the issue could have to do with that I'm using a completely new laptop (as opposed to just updating the OS on the same laptop)... Apple transferred everything from my old laptop (which is kinda dying) with Snow Leopard, to my new laptop, which has Mountain Lion.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or tips or links or anything on how I might be able to fix this, I'd really appreciate it!

Just wanted to pass along for anyone who comes across this post and had the same problem--a friend of mine showed me a simple way to fix it!! Just hold "n" on startup, and this will open the playback engine settings prior to trying to make a session. Select the proper one, and the access privileges for IO thing shouldn't be a problem any more.

My account shows no downloads... no evidence that I have even purchased PT9, but when I try to register it says it is already registered (and I do remember registering it after I bought it). Can anyone help?
