Default Adding a PC to my Mac setup

Hey all,

My folks just bought a new computer and gave me there old one, a modest 1.6 Ghz Dell". I'm thinking I might be able to use the extra CPU to lighten the load a bit on my Mac (G5 1.6) -- perhaps host a convolution reverb plug or something along those lines. Can anybody suggest a way I might be able to make use of this extra computer? Or perhaps point me to a relevant archived thread. (BTW, I'm using an MBox). Any info appreciated ... thanks!

Andy

You can use it is a sample player and route the audio outputs into the Mac's PT interface. Gigastudio is used in this fashion since it needs to be on a standalone machine and is not mac compatible. The PC becomes a musical instrument like any outboard synth.

As off now, unlike with logic, PT has no distributed audio processing across computers.

Default Re: Adding a PC to my Mac setup

Just buy a decent and inexpensive 2 in/2 out audio interface card (M-Audio 2496 for example)

Using ProTools M-Powered, make one or two auxillary tracks and add the required processor intensive plugins to them. Using Analog/SPDIF in/outs on your card and the 001/002, you can use the Dell as an external processor.

If you find M-Powered expensive, you can use any other DAW software and use it as a Plugin Interface. Nuendo isn't a bad choice.
