Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
I'm using Pro limiter in my 5.1 mix. I inserted one in my sfx master aux, threshold -1, output -1. I inserted one more in my fmix master aux, also the setting as threshold -1, output -1. However when I played back with the solo of sfx group, I found that there was still gain reduction in the fmix master limiter. The left input meter still showed that there was gain reduction around 2-3 db. I don't understand why this happened. Because I had limited the sfx group as -1, there shouldn't any gain reduction in the master, right?

Re: Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
What you describe shouldn't happen. I can imagine the master limiter would just barely get "touched" because incoming audio is hitting its threshold, but there should not be several db of gain reduction happening. Maybe its is just the way the metering works, making a tiny "touch" look bigger than it really is? What happens if you set the sfx stem limiter slightly lower, to perhaps -1.1? You could also monitor peak levels in PT both before the master limiter and after. You would definitely see a difference if the master limiter is working that much.

Re: Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
Just to rule it out, do not want to question a pro:
The "TRIM" on the lower left corner of the final Pro Limiter, maybe the little fader for trim was dragged upwards by the mouse by accident.

Re: Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
This video is recorded from my session. The left limiter is from FX master. The right one is from fmix master. The gain reduction still occured from the fmix master one although I have already set the left one as -1 output Sent from my SM-G5308W using Tapatalk |

Re: Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
To rule out :
There is no volume automation on the aux of the left limiter ? The track shown in the video (with the 2 loud sound effects) is not routed with an additional output to the final aux ?

Re: Question about using Avid Pro Limiter on 5.1 mix
Yes it looks like you may have volume automation on your FX master Auxillary. If its the track volume underneath the last fx track in your video it looks like its turned up to +12db.
