Hi Dan. Good question. I don't know. I'll try and find out though.

The Broadcast Wave Format just adds additional RIFF chunks to the existing WAV format and should be easy for Digi to add to their software or for a third party to write a simple utility to add the extra chunks to an existing WAV file.

The Broadcast Wave Format spec is documented at http://www.ebu.ch/pmc_bwf.html

Hi Tom...!
Ok because there MUST be a reason why PT/NT'S software has this AES31/BroadcastWave convert check box in the preferences menu.
There must be some sort of digital video workstations that could IMPORT those AES31 Wave file (which have SMPTE time code stamped on them) in order to make work and transfer easier for post-production purposes mainly..
Also, would it be the a kind of OMFi standard for the NT platform??

I dont know! help!

All files originating in PT are Broadcast Wave/AES31 files. The BWave spec requires that you put additional RIFF data chunks before the samples in the file. If you do this on import it requires that you make a copy of the file which can take a while. That's why we give you the option of whether or not to convert the file on import.

Is there a way to get PT to Export AES31 from 5.01?
