Default Error: Magic ID does not match

I have searched the DUC and find no solution. Heartbreak. I am running PT 8 on Windows SP2 with a maxtor drive that has worked flawlessly for a year.

Magic ID error is a bad sign I'm afraid; it usually means a corrupted session. Have you tried loading one of the auto-backed up sessions? (you do have auto backup turned on, right?)
You can also try creating a new session and importing the data from the malfunctioning session, but I would definitely recommend doing it one track at a time, and saving copies.

A couple of things;
  • Drives that "work flawlessly for a year" are not exempt from errors. As a matter of fact, the longer that they run, the more prone they are to errors.
  • While it isn't required, I would recommend SP3.
  • I always recommend a good backup routine to avoid possible catastrophes like this. It takes just a few minutes to backup a session to an external drive or optical disc, and the time and heartache saved is well worth the time spent.

An addendum to SP3, do a CUSTOM Windows update, not an EXPRESS one, so you can make SURE you DO NOT install Internet Explorer 8.
