Default ideas about av-san versus fw 800 blah blah blah

I am considering an av san/fibrechannel rig for a studio i work with, but i suspect that with g5s and firewire 800 and panther, there may be a new easier way to acheive this functionality? Any thoughts?
Thanks

tom
