Region TICK problem... not there in elastic mode but appears after "commit" ?

I have two regions in a polyphonic elastic audio track that plays smooth as butter with no tick (even without a crossfade) BUT... as soon as I either consolidate the regions or take it out of elastic mode and "commit" a tick appears (with or without a crossfade). Arrrrrg!

I'm pretty good at troubleshooting ticks -- using the trim tool to find the best spot, adjusting the crossfade length, etc. but this one has me stumped, mainly because it's not there in one mode and suddenly appears as soon as I consolidate. Any sure-fire methods of getting rid of an annoying tick?

PS... running PT 8.0cs2 / Leopard 10.5.7

EDIT: I figured it out. You need to get out of elastic mode, "commit" then switch back to "samples" instead of ticks... THEN do the crossfade. Not sure why that is, but I guess crossfading in ticks doesn't work so well.
