Default HardDrives..good or bad?

i just bought an iMAC os ox 10.6.6 now running protools 8 le

I use to save session files on to my old computer which i heard was not recommended, go buy an external hardDrive. So i bought a WESTERN DIGITAL MY BOOK essential 1 TB hard drive with 3.0 usb strictly for pro tools files.

I found out to use this on the mac i must reformat the drive. Now doing research im hearing about firewire external hardDrives...

my question is, after reformatting the drive will the My Book be suitible for pro tools or should i exchange it for another type of external HD.

A number of the MyBooks have power saving features that can cause problems with audio recording. I think WD has a utility that turns it off but I don't know about a mac version.

Im using My Book essential 2 TB usb 3.0 for 2 weeks now.
I dont know about recording to it since its mostly post work but it plays back ~50 tracks with no problems.
I dont think your imac has usb3, so it might be better for you if the drive was fw800 or eSATA if you have it, other wise it would work as usb2

correct my usbs on my mac are 2.0. ill just take it as a loss since i can no longer find my receipt to best buy. ill just buy one with firewire since that seems to be the norm.

Wondering why you are posting on the Windows part of the forum for the best answer.
