i noticed a problem very similar, i went into my device manager and seen that my fast track wasnt set on the right drivers, i think it even came up as usb audio...

a way to determine if this is your problem... just open your volume mixer and make sure it says something like 1-2 or 1-2 fast track

if not just go into your device manager and set it to use the correct drivers.. the ones in the m-audio folder
