Default External word clock source for 192?

Hi,

I'm wondering if there are dedicated master word clocks available other than an Apogee Big Ben or an external AD converter that might improve the sound of my HD3 system. Anyone have good experience with anything else?

Thanks

I did some testing about 6-years using a Sencore digital test-set specifically to measure JITTER of the 192. Believe it or not, there's MORE jitter when locked to an external clock... not much, but it is measurable. If you want to improve the sound of your 192s, IMHO, get different converters.

I like my Lucid GenX 192 clock and I hear really great stuff about the Antelope Isochronic(however its spelled) for clocks(but the Big Ben certainly has a stellar reputation). I also just read a rather glowing review of the Black Lion modded 192(BLA calls it the FM192). Maybe the real question is why you don't want the Big Ben or what exactly are you searching for(that you are not getting now)? Maybe you should look into the Lynx Aurora with the HD card?

i always found with the 192 I/O's is that it would sound good on its own .. but it will take on the character of whatever you clock it with .. aardsync II, Aurora 16, Big Ben ....

i personally use the Aurora and like it .. it has more inputs and outputs, and for my needs, it works ...

i wish they would have made the 192 I/O more flexible .. maybe it will be in the future ...

cheers

I don't have a specific problem or complaint - I just spoke to a friend who had clocked his 192 with a Lynx and liked the sound marginally better than on internal clock, although he didn't much care for the Lynx converters. I haven't heard the Lynx converters myself, or a Big Ben for that matter. I was really curious to see if there are recommendations for anything cheaper than the Big Ben that's worth hearing to see if I might like it. Price is my only real hesitation about the Apogee. I don't want to like something that expensive - then I'll have to buy it and my wife will kill me.
