If you use PT10 with RAM cache there is no need for fast hd´s

Only problems i have seen with SSD are with disk based authorizations! sometimes the SSD drives need firmware updates which usually trash the auths.

I have s SSD myself as a system drive...and sure it boots twice as fast as before
For Playback the RAM Cashe feature is great but for recording, a SSD can still be an option. Nobody knows how long a SSD drive lasts yet so be sure to have a secure backup system, as Time Machine.

Excellent advice. I BU to TM and SYNC to mechanical drives constantly just in case.

After watching a AVID video about the disc cache feature I have learned it is hugely involved when recording too ! You record to RAM so to speak so SSD is really not that important now, at least not for your playback/record track counts ( but still for sample based VIs I guess) so use your money for RAM instead
