Default FireWire on the front vs. rear of my G5

Hello,

I've got a problem with my new Digi 002r. If I connect it to the FireWire Port at the back of my G5 Dual 2.5 my system doesn't recognize the Digi: nothing in the system profiler and no connection of Pro Tools 6.4 LE or CoreAudio Setup 6.4 to the hardware. Also iTunes only plays back over the internal outputs of the mac.

If I plug my Digi 002 into the FW Port at the front then everything is fine.

How can this be? Is my rear FW port out of order? I can't believe because it works fine with my LaCie disk and my dv deck (which are not plugged in when I tested my Digi 002 on this port).

Any ideas?

Deckard

Update the G5 firmware (available at apple.com).

My G5 is relatively new. I think I've got the newest ROM-Version: 5.1.8f7

I've had to update the firmware of G5's which are brand new to avoid FireWire issues.

Not sure about the firewire issue but the iTunes issue is an easy fix. (I think!)
IUnser Applications in your Digidesign folder click on "Digidesign Core Audio set up". Make sure all your applications that use the 002R are closed. Then select the "Supported Applications" button and add iTunes to it. You should be set. I just learned that myself this week!!

Scott, thank you for this nice try. iTunes is by default in my supported applications list. It's not that iTunes can't work with the Digi 002. It can't work with it if I connected the Digi to the FW400 Port at the back of my G5. It works fine if connected via the FW400 Port at the front. Crazy stuff.

I also tried open firmware and reset-all at startup (option key, command key, o and f): no success.

No, nothing else is connected at any FW port when I try to make the Digi work.

Hey- I'm having the same issue with my G5. Any luck? I'm gonna get on the phone with DIGI today if I can.
