Default Delete unused plugins

I've been trying to delete unused plugins ... From what I understand the path is
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins. However, when I follow this path there is no Plug-Ins within the Avid folder. Am I missing something obvious?

(Mac Pro. Yosemite. PT 12.5)

Help much appreciated!

Are you sure you’re not looking within your user folder by accident?

Hi, welcome to the community.

Yes, you have that path right (starting from root, not user home) and I assume you have double-checked that you have "admin" user, not the standard user without admin privileges..?

If there are no plugins in that folder after launching PT, something is wrong.

Would be irresponsible of us to not suggest:

#1: Using the plugins' uninstall feature (if provided) and/or
#2: Moving them to an unused folder?

That is, of course, after answering the initial questions, which you've done.

So you were looking in your User folder? Thought that’s what it might have been.

Glad you got it sorted.

There are some Avid core plugs that won’t stop being reloaded even if you place them into the unused folder. Well that was my experience on the sys listed in my signature. These reside in a core library..... such as the Clickii.aaxplugin which I had to remove a few weeks back.

You shouldn't remove/delete core audio plugins. They are located in the Pro Tool.app package on Macs and will get installed/re-installed every time you re-open Pro Tools. It's one of the first things the application checks when opening (if those plugins exist.) It is, in essence, part of the new installation process of Pro Tools.

Removing those (to unused or delete) is only wasting your time and slowing down opening Pro Tools each time. This falls under "don't do dumb things."

Here are the plugins that should remain untouched (touch them and pay the consequences -- also I don't understand why just ignoring them isn't done instead of messing with things):

Actually removing the click plug from the core lib IS the only way to stop it being reinstalled every time you start PT. If PT doesn’t see the plug in your plug folder it will load it from within the core lib into your plug folder. I have not experienced any slow down in starting PT at all, the 6101 error that the click plug seemed to be causing has gone from 2-3 and hour to almost non existent.

And I don’t think I’m too far from the truth in saying....
In that way you can/could customise which plugs are core plugs as long as they have the right “.aaxplugin” although I haven’t tried this and i’m Not suggesting anyone should. It a pretty easy way for Avid to vary what’s in there without rewriting a lot of code.... ie moving from 32 bit plugs to 64bit.... and then there is the way software runs on Mac as apposed to windows. I’m pretty sure some things like this would be mission critical on a windows machine. The difference between my version of PT and someone running PT Ultimate is prolly little more than swapping out a core package...... which inturn can tell other packages ie interfaces and such.... what they will look like and contain.

But then I stand to be corrected if that isn’t the case, but the core plug folder is little more than a holding tank that is also scanned as a reference when you start PT, if it sees a plug in its core plugs folder that isn’t in your plugs folder (perhaps the annoying one you keep deleting) it’ll throw it back in there.... removing it from the core folder stops this.
