PT 9 upgrade advice & HD License query

Hi DUC'ers

Have PTv9HD on my iLok for my studio rig & PTLEv8 license for my home 003 rig.

Can I install ProTools v9 HD on my home rig and use my 003 as Sound card (yes) & controller? (as was with v8LE)

If so, whats the best way to install v9?
remove v8 completely, install drivers for 003 then v9 software?

Any advice appreciated folks.

Hi,

Yes, just plug your ilok with 9 on it and your home computer can run PT9. as you have a HD license you also get all the features of CPT (complete production toolkit) so most of the HD features. obviously no TDM plugs and a few other HD specific features that require the HD hardware.


Its advised to uninstall LE8 before install PT9 "full installer" and the drivers for your interface.

The PT9 FAQ have all the links and info etc

Will the 003 still function as a 003 board, faders etc... (as in LE) with PT9HD in this setup?

I dont see it as a compatible Control Surface according to this chart
Only with 8Le and 9

Can you do us a favor and install PT 9 on your home rig, (maybe use another boot drive and install SL) just in case it doesn't work. See if the 003 will work as I/O and controller with a PT9 HD ilok authorization.

I will install on my MacBookPro when i get home tonight instead, as I dont have a spare drive to install SL on the MacPro & i'll report back soon as

I hope the 003 functions as (LE intended) controller.

Ok fellas,

Got 9.0.1 update installed on MBP (10.6.4) with 003 family drivers & MIDI fix etc

HD 9 does not see the 003, only ProTools Aggregate device which at the moment is set to built-in in/outs.

003 is recognised by MBP Audio Midi Studio setup & digi core manager etc.

I have tried to make an aggregate device with 003 but everytime i make a new device it does not give me the option to select the 003 as INS/OUTS etc

How can i make the 003 an Aggregate device? maybe then, it may work.....

The 003 is not supported as a part of an aggregate device. This has been discussed here a lot, try searching the forum if you want more info.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!

I was looking in the wrong place, you don't even need aggregate device if you only want to use 003.

003 functions as normal with PTHDv9, just select 003 in " Playback Engine... "

I was looking at " Hardware... " before where the only option is Aggregate device.

Hopefully Avid will make it possible to Aggregate 003 with other devices, as i would like to get some Prism i/O going on at home, with the control surface functionality of my 003, pls dont make it redundant for me Avid

But a 003 controlling a HD software rig, never thought the day would come.
