Default Clip Bin trick for Pro Tools

Maybe others already know this, but it was new to me. Well, my editors figured it out years ago and never told me, the blaggards! Reason I didn't know it is because I drop Soundminer transfers right on to the timeline and never work this way. One day I walked in and was trying to figure out what he was doing. And today I had a use for it.

If you want to easily populate the Clip Bin with only the recent transfers, pull up the Clip Bin search box (shift-cmd-F), then hit the spacebar a couple of times so the "search" it pulls up is null. Now transfer audio files. Only those audio files will be showing in the bin. Now you can easily drag just those files on to tracks.

Maybe this works in Nuendo or Reaper too.

For the times when you might need something like that...

Cool. I would never have thought of that.

I go one further and have sound miner add prefixes to transfers so I can separate and search only specific groups of effects.

Another option (independent of Sound Miner) is to go to the CLIPS (clip bin) pull down menu and select; Sort by - File Modification Date. Then select; Descending. Your most recent additions to the bin will appear at the top of the list.

Same thing here. I've been adding "sfx", "pfx", "adr" suffixes for years now. Now the good thing is, and not a lot of people know that the clip bin search function gives you the ability to save entries with the session. I have a set entries with my template and I usually add more along when working with radio dx (using the names from the field recorder metadata) or a language prefix when working with multi-language sessions.

All good workarounds, but begs the question, why does Protools not allow multiple bins, like Media Composer (and every other NLE) have had forever. So you could sort your clips into dialogue, music, sfx or anything else you wanted. We have been asking for this for years, along with a clip editor, with no joy.
