Question on MAC specs please

sick of pc am going mac hopefully by mid year. i want to know as i have never even used a mac for more than 10min a time or nor do i know much about them, what is the best mac for the job, i have up to £3000 and 20% discount for one but would like that to include dual monitors extra hard disks etc.i want to know what processor, what os, ram etc etc??? i have the 003 mixing console with 7.4

thanks but with that alot of useful advice i found when i made my pc suggested the use of items unsupported by digidesign, this isn't to say they didn't work but rather just not full tested. in the pc section we have a sticky list what we use what works what doesn't to aid in building of a pc. i understand macs aren't so complicated but was just looking for the component names of a more top spec mac from you guys the users

That's the joy of MACs. Everyone uses the same specs. There aren't many upgrade options or 3rd party components that you can use, and besides the ram and the hard drive, you can't even upgrade internal mac components without it being qualified by apple.

The only thing you have to concern yourself with is you are buying a new Mac, sometimes you are ahead of the curve and the system hasn't been qualified yet.

Basically any mac you buy with leopard isn't qualified. All others , tiger and before work just fine.

Stick to oxford chipsets in your firewiredrive
USB Drives not recommended
Powered Firehubs do work - I use one
You can use a USB hub for all your peripherals but the mbox needs to go into it's own bus.
You don't have to buy ram from Apple, there are other reputable dealers that you can get it from cheaper.

yes some one said the new mac pro's aren't supported and to buy a 2nd hand promac G5? so would you guys buy it 2nd hand cheap and stable or try the new pro's and hope for the best?
