Default 2nd Internal HD for Samples

do you guys think it is necessary to have a different Internal HD for keeping the Sample Files of VI's and Software Samplers? or is it just fine to work on the system HD for those things?
i never record on My HD - so i was wondering since i have 1 terra of space on the System HD - if i can use it to reinstall all the Sample data...

I wouldn't worry about it. Now with Disk Cache keeping all the audio in RAM , disk access shouldn't be an issue.

Of course all you have to do is try it!!

I like having an extra drive for samples.
Every time I do a clean system and PT install or upgrade the mac Pro
I always have this system ready to be fired without the hours spend to reload the DVD's
Also if you are doing sampler intensive session I would look into SSD drive as they starting to be dropping in price.

That is very wrong still. Even though things have gotten better, the VI samples do not get cached the same way that your audio sample does, and some VI libraries are actually access from the HDD on a regular basis while only the first part of the sample is loaded in Ram.

It is a very very very good idea to get a separate HDD for your VI's, and you should also get one for your audio sample if you don't have them already. This will avoid a lot of problems, even with the changes they did to the disk scheduler.

I never said it cached the VIs. I said it cached the audio for the project (which of course resides on a sep drive) and therefore "lightens the load" on drives in general. I also said to go ahead and try it and see what happens.

My Tower rigs keep 4 drives, •Boot, •Boot Backup, •Sound effects and •Sample libraries.

The SFX and SMPL drives are both 2 partitions. Samples/Audio-working, Sound FX-.dmg Image backups.

Video runs on an external raid.
Archives on removable raw drives.
