Re: Firewire410 Problems with sound output
I went to the M-Audio site and only found 1.7.2 as the closest previous version for intel macs. I tried installing that one but the mac didn't even see the 410, even after 2 shutdown/restarts. I went back to 1.8.2 things are ok as long as I reset in the control panel.
On the windows side however it's still weird... I'm thinking M-Audio may need to update the 5.10.00.5036v2 driver for intel macs that use XP. Peace, RS |

M-Audio suggested to me that there is a clash between their drivers and Digi's that is causing it. This is not so much alarming as depressing.

Re: Firewire410 Problems with sound output
Does the PT and M-audio drivers on the mac side have any conflicts with the XP drivers?... cause that's where my problem is right now. As much as I would love to, I haven't even installed PT on the XP side yet, but no matter what audio (even if it's the computer chime) it's all distorted and aliasing so I'm waiting til I sort this one out before installing PT on the XP.
Thanks RS |

Re: Firewire410 Problems with sound output
You can't use the 410 on both Mac and XP. I've tried numerous times. They have different firmware and when you install the mac firmware the mac works fine while XP playback is all distorted. If you install XP firmware, when you start up on your mac, it automatically updates to the mac firmware, so your XP won't work once you go back to it from the mac. I've asked the M-Audio support and they have never figured anything out. The only way to bypass is by using the onboard sound card on your mac or pc to your 410...not as good sound, mind you, but then you can at least use the nice sound card for recording on one OS.
And about your problem with OSX playback...I too have that problem. Sometimes when I restart I get no sound. The way to fix it is by going into the 410 control panel in preferences and hitting reset. Annoying I know but, again, M-Audio support wasn't able to fix. They told me to install an old driver but that worked for just the first couple times. I've now set up a script, through script utility, to automatically open a saved 410 preference (which I saved on the computer when I reset the sound card and it was outputting sound) so that it automatically resets the 410 CP on startup and then closes it when it's done. Horrible workaround but it works nonetheless. |

Re: Firewire410 Problems with sound output
Suffering the same here output wise with FW410 driver version 1.8.2 on Mac Pro 2x2 GHz/10.4.9/PTMP 7.3.1cs4.
Are any of you experiencing similar issues when using the SPDIF input?

I'm going to try other people's suggestion of reverting to the 1.7.4 drivers...it's a pretty irritating problem.

FWIW, I both used AppZapper to find all the M-Audio related system files (and deleted them), and did the "uninstall" that's in the DMG for the drivers before installing 1.7.4.

Re: Firewire410 Problems with sound output
Interesting...I reverted to 1.7.4 here, and that *did* seem to fix that issue (using a Projectmix I/O)...also seemed to fix an issue where I'd intermittently hear bits of delayed audio in a session for a 1/2-second or so. FWIW, I both used AppZapper to find all the M-Audio related system files (and deleted them), and did the "uninstall" that's in the DMG for the drivers before installing 1.7.4.
Having success since uninstalling/reinstalling drivers. Seems to be a clocking issue. FW410 loses clock occasionally when tracking via coax SPDIF input. Annoying but liveable. Best, JD
