inexpensive drum mic kits
I'm looking for an inexpensive drum mike kit. I will not use it to justify spending the money on an expensive set. I have been looking CAD, AT, and NADY. The Nady looks like it would be nice if it sounded good. If anyone has used these kits could they please post how they sounded.

Re: inexpensive drum mic kits
If you just want something to do basic recording buy some used 57's, which usually go for around $50 each. We've been hearing them on recordings for decades...
If you want to get 2 great mics for drums, I suggest two mics from Shure. For kick drum, the Beta 52, and for overheads the VP-88 stereo mic. the two will set you back about $900 new, but you will get incredible results with just these two mics. Most of the recordings on our website (go to the listen page) were done this way, though some have a bit of snare mic. (This can be a used 57 you get for $50) In fact, with the proper placement, you can get a great drum sound with JUST the VP-88. Of course the key to any sound is the source, and if you have a bad sounding kit it will sound bad on the recording. Good luck. |

Re: inexpensive drum mic kits
I use the Cad mic set for my toms and kick, it always comes out pretty good...If the drums sound good. I would recommend getting a Shure SM57 for the snare, though...But they're cheap.

Re: inexpensive drum mic kits
I bought that Shure drum package: 3 sm57's and 1 Beta 52. I do the Beta for the BD, one sm57 for the SD and 2 sm57's for L -R overheads. I've been experiment and getting nice results. Just trying not clip.

Re: inexpensive drum mic kits
Redarrow. I have not heard the kits and don't know thier price. Get them from one of the 30 day return places and try them out.Check to make shure they will return mics though.Or, this would make a nice starter kit.AKG D12 or Shure 52 about $180 on kick. Or a used EV RE20. Shure 57, used on snare, try it first to see if it is still fresh and bright.2 Oktava OC12's for overhead,$200 a pair on sale at Guitar center sometimes. You could use this stuff on more than drums,Kick mic on bass cabs.OC12's on acoustic and vocal,57 on guitar cabs. ect.For toms, used 57's for cheap would do but I would listen to some of the new and cheap small dia. condenser's or back electret's first.
