Can't Change Sample Rate

When I create a new session I want a sample rate of 44.1 instead of 48 but that field is disabled and I can't change it.

Probably related, I can play other sound from my Windows laptop, through the MBOX Mini audio interface, to the monitors. In Pro Tools, for some reason, the sound wants to come out of my laptop speakers. There doesn't seem to be any place to declare my MBOX Mni as my audio interface.

I just moved up from Pro Tools 10 to PT12 and I'm also using it on a new laptop so it could be either one.

1. Set your internal soundcard to be the windows default playback device. (image)
2. Launch PT and hold the N key on your keyboard when you see the splash screen.
3. In the Playback Engine window, choose MBOX Mini from the drop-down list.

You may be required to quit and reopen PT, but it should work from then on.

Why you're encountering a problem: Windows is trying to set your soundcard to one sample rate, and Pro Tools is trying to set it to another. Windows ends up taking priority. There is currently no way to inform Windows of sample rate changes made by another client, and there is no way to provision Pro Tools with authority over the Windows playback device settings, so an error appears.
