Don't waste your time with PT12. I brings nothing. Russ from Pro Tools expert called this release garbage and uninstalled PT12 within an hour of installing it and went back to 11

Installing PT12 will uninstall 11. Stick with PT11

Well PT12 seems snappier for me ... at least for me since I had a lot of issues with 11 !

sounds like Russ is being quite dramatic. Screaming that it should just be called "11.4" but treating it like its toxic. If its just a minor update missing features, why would you uninstall it? If its buggier, slower, and more detrimental to your work, ok... go for it. But jeez... what a drama queen.

No drama queen but someone who realized Avid should not have charge $199 for this. And it is toxic when it deletes your PT11 install without any warning. Installing Pt11 didn't wipe out existing PT10 installs so why should PT12 wipe out PT11 install? I know the two programs have the same name but Avid should have in big bold letters:
INSTALLING PT12 WILL WIPE OUT EXISTING PT11 INSTALLS

Pt10 / Pt11 dual installation were thought to assure plugins compatibility. Pt11 is the first 64bits pt system and plugins since this version are aax64bits.

So, for purchasers with rtas plugins Avid let the possibility to install both versions of Pro Tools, making possible gradual plugins migration.

There's no reason to have both Pro Tools 11 and 12 in the same system because both versiones open same session files, use same plugins and so on.

You are mistaken; if one has a working system with PT11 why should that be jeopardized by installing PT12? There's no guarantee PT12 will work on a particular system so having something that is known to work is a must. Besides why would Avid allow one to have license assets for PT11 and PT12? It's like those of us that have multiple boot systems - so you can try new things without screwing up the existing system.

Hi music man, I think we are speaking about two different things. I'm actually doing what you say. Pt11 on yosemite main system and trying pt12 in the second drives with mavericks. I'm intended to keep working pt11 on main system until I'm sure pt12 will get me good performance.

What I wanted to say is that there is no reason to need pt11 installed if pt12 is working in your system, because they arr basically the same; my tryarounds with pt12 make me believe pt12 isn't anymore a 11.4 sold as a new version.

They change startup dialog, some features into I/O but the engine is pratically the same. If you haver pt12 working I don't find any reason to run pt11 in the same machine. If you have dualboot and you want to keep 12 in one and 11 in the other, I find it great! You can as Avid leave in our iLok a bundle license 10/11/12.
Personally It think that doing that is like having 11.2 and 11.3 in the same system...why?

Dual installing 10/11 or 10/12 gives you the possibility to have both 32bit/64bit audio engine

Default PT 11 and 12 installed on same Mac?

Yes but remember that dual install specifically requires Mountain Lion

I'm talking about having both available in the same boot partition. Yosemite is not stable enough for me to use it in production or anything else. So your method would not work. You're also missing the thing of stability of PT12 itself and until that happens one needs to have access to both on the same machine and boot partition.

You're talking about dual PT10/12 installs? What about those of us who have PT10 running no problem on Mavericks? I know it's not supported because of the uninstaller for PT10 not working in Mavericks but that's a minor issue at best as there's a manual way to uninstall PT10.
