Default Inexpensive Midi i/o

Hi,

I'm not a midi guy, but I want to get an inexpensive midi i/o with just a couple of midi channels so I can hook up a keyboard and get some virtual instruments going for the purpose of learning basic midi skills in PT....so I don't have to fumble if someone needs to get it going.

Can anyone recommend something with a channel or two or three that's compatible with HD 7.3.1?. No audio in/out required, although I may be able to put that to use on another platform.

Cheers,

mark

That's what I thought.

I have a MOTU MTP AV laying around somewhere, but it's the parallel port version I used on a Windows box a while back. Will that work?

I've been advised that for PT the midi must be USB. Is that correct?

You can try M-Audio. I use a midisport 2 in 2 out midi interface and it works just fine.

If it has a serial port too then you can use this.

Griffin iMate

I use one with my old kensington trackball and it works great. Picked mine up from eBay
for $7.

I bought an used MTP Micro Express USB at ebay for U$80. It functions pretty fine with my G3, G4 QS and MAc Pro.

MAudio Uno works fine and they are readily available.

Point 2..... Why not just buy a keyboard with a USB connection like the Maudio stuff and not worry about a MIDI interface? Greatly simplifies things.

Good point...but I already have some cheapo keyboard laying around and I'm trying to do this on the cheap since it's just a learning thing.

Plus, I'd like to have a few midi in/out available for guests.

I have both for the same reasons and thought I would mention it if you hadn't bought a keyboard yet.

USB is extra nice because it can also power the device and often requires no drivers
