Any advantage to higher end video card?
Is there any advantage now a days to having a higher end video card installed for a DAW only computer using PT8?
I am going to experiment with PT8 CS1, Windows7 64 bit OS and Motherboard with Intel quad core, 8 gigs of ddr2 ram, 3-SATA drives. With dual screen monitors will having a mid range/higher end video card like a ATI-4850 have any advantages for the overall performance of the computer or is it just over kill when used on a dedicated DAW computer. No gaming, no internet access, just the DAW. I may end up with a Intel Motherboard using the I5 or 7 chip and matching processor and ddr3 ram instead. I already own the first system I mentioned though so I don't really need to throw more money at this. My current video card is something like a ati-xt1800 or something simple. runs fine under windows XP SP3, does dual monitors. Any info will help, thanks. |

Re: Any advantage to higher end video card?
At the risk of starting up yet another thread about this topic, I'll try to answer as simply as I can.
The only thing that a video card can do to hinder the performance of PT is too much onboard RAM (anything higher than 512Mb is not recommended). The card only needs good driver support and great 2D performance. Having said that, the general consensus is that once PT becomes fully Windows 7 64bit supported, so long as you have plenty of RAM installed, this should become a non-issue. .

Re: Any advantage to higher end video card?
If you current card supports your monitors resolutions why change it?
Save it for your next build
