My pc has died and I need to replace it. I have very little money to buy a new computer and am having a difficult time finding info on compatibility. I am open for suggestions.

My only advise would be if you have to buy a new computer you want an Intel i7 or better Chip, Spend as much money as you can. Get at least 2 if not 3 eSata internal Hard Drives. You might need to speed between $1000 to $1400 to get a real nice Pro Tools Music Computer.

Knowing what you had that died could help us better determine your needs.

Probably the best bang for your buck would be a Intel Core 2 Duo system using the P35 or P45 chipset and any number of readily available Intel Dual Core Processors. Knowing what you had would determine if there was anything you could scavenge for your new build.

Assuming you have a existing PSU, case and drives (and a copy of Windows) you could get up and running for around 400.00.

Other than that you would be looking at used single core or older Athlon X2 dual core system.

That's pretty steep, considering. and eSATA HD are not supported, although some people have them working. I think you meant to say SATA. Also 2 500 GB WD black 7200 RPM drives are enough. My system (at bottom) is plenty fast enough, not future proof, but fast enough to run upto the track limit and still use enough inserts.

Just saying, don't scare him away

I have a cheapy 4 year old computer. AMD Athlon Dual Core 2.2 Gig with 2 Gigs of DDR RAM. No, not DDR2 or 3, just regular DDR. lol Anyways, I even record to the system drive (even tho they say not to) but i get full track counts with Music Production Toolkit 2 with loads of plugs. So no, you do NOT need the latest and fastest computer although i will be upgrading soon (hopefully if PT ever goes 64 bit - doubtful) with Intel I7 because i hear good things, but......you can get by with something old and decent.

I have a couple of Q.xxx series on P5Q deluxe boards (overclocked FSB to 1600 for bandwidth). I haven't run out of CPU power yet.
