Default Is my Mic messed up or what ???

I have an M-Box 2 and an MXL 2003 Mic. The mic is only a year old. Lately when I am gonna record with the mic and I turn on the Phanthom Power I start to hear static. At first it was very low and now it even sounds like static and a pretty strong wind passing through the mic. I used the mic with a diferent cable and it still makes the noise. I also used another mic that did not need phantom power but everything was ok. I dont think its my M-Box.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my mic? Does it have a fix?

Well, wouldn't the best test to see if it's your mbox or not be to try a completely different microphone and cord that DOES require phantom power?

Check the M-Box phantom power with another phantom-powered mike. Alternatively, check the MXL 2003 on another console that has phantom. My bets are on the M-Box having something wrong with the phantom power.

Did you guys every experience that problem? ... if its my M-box does it have a fix ... I will try another mic to see if its the mic ... I am trying to find out if that ever happened to anyone?

Does it sound more like a M-Box problem or Mic problem ???

I was thinking it was the mic because I do not put it away in the case I leave it up ... I did not think it was a problem ... but now i am giving it a second thought .. what do you guys think?

Never had the problem, but only deal with one microphone Since I could guess it's a problem with any one of the three items (mic, mbox, or cord), I'd say that I would do what's been suggested. I would actually have called my local friends and borrowed their mic to test it before posting, but everyone panics differently.

Until you do the test, I'm willing to guess it's the mbox only because it has yet to be proven it's not the mbox. As for a fix, I wouldn't recommend opening it up yourself or anything... Could you live without the one SPDIF Input? If the other Input works for Phantom Powered, you may have to rely on it.

Otherwise, contact Digidesign Customer Support

As you posted as I was writing this, I'll edit. I leave my AKG Microphone on the stand all the time, it's been in it's case only when I moved from one house to another, and only for that day, since I bought it. Unless the room you leave your mic in is incredibly dirty.... in which case, who wants to record in a dirty room? For that matter, I would hope your computer's in a separate room. Because of those two factors, I assume the room is reasonably clean

it's good idea to put your mic in the case or box after use so you don't get dust on the diaphragm...think of how much dust is in your place over the course of years....

Hmmm..... maybe I'll wrap it tight with plastic, as the case itself wasn't exactly a greatly designed box. I ended up tearing it to pieces just to open it.

what if I leave my m-box on all the time ... since it is powered through the USB conection ... can that have been the problem that messed up the phantom power.

I will not open my M-box by the way ... lol ... I could record through line and DI and MIDI so it will still be useful
