Default Digi PRE - Start Up Troubles

Hello all! This is my first post here, so be gentle!

I'm having an issue with my Digi PRE. I turned it on and the readout reads 8.8.8. just like always, but it freezes there. Never moves on. No sound in or out other than a thump on startup. Can't select or mute channels, none of the buttons get a response. I've tried restarting and then I unplugged it, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in with the same result.

I've got a band coming over in two hours and I'm getting freaked out. Has anybody here encountered this problem?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Greg

I'm not actually using ProTools yet. I'm using logic with the PRE in stand-alone mode. Its not hooked up with MIDI to anything...

I'm in the process of building an HD system and bought the PRE before anything else because it was a step up from my old pre's. When it worked, anyway...

Any ideas? I just saw another thread saying it might be the power supply. Doesn't seem quite right to me, but what do I know. I just like to make music!

Just in case anybody has this problem in the future, it was a corrupted boot loader chip. It has to be shipped off to digi in California to be repaired. Cost is 375 bones which includes return shipping.

So much for that 421!!! Oh well, I suppose these things happen...

I can fix this for you with no problem
I've fix this error before and it may have been what they said but from my experience ...It's always been something else
There is 3 other reasons for the same error than the boot loader ( CPU/ firmware ) IC being bad

My repairs typically are near 50% of the OEM

Contact me at the info below if needed
Thanks M

Thanks, this particular unit is under warranty and sent in to Avid for repair. Just wondering if MIDI has any part screwing up these devices?

If what you mean is " Can a midi signal have a negative affect on the PRE ?"

The answer would be no, as long as your coming from a midi port from another device, even if you made the cable completly wrong it can't hurt the Midi Input or output of the PRE

Now a noisy or bad signal can crash it, or bug it out, but in no way way can it permanently hurt it

In the worst possible case it would damage the midi port itself
But again in no way would it affect or damage the internal components beyond the Midi in or out ports

Hope this helps

I did mean, that if a MIDI signal can lock it up to show 888 and become unresponsive?

Given that MIDI is used to control the PRE, I would not be surprised to see some errant MIDI commands being able to lock it up...

Just rockin'...what more is there?
