Default Need help identifying an old PCI card - Sonic solutions

I just inherited this card with an old G4 and I have no idea what it is. There was no software for it on the computer, just a clean install of OSX. From what I can tell it looks like a video capture card, since it has 2 BNC connectors on it. There is also a VHDCI connector. The only thing significant that I can find on the card is the words "Sonic solutions copyright 1999" It also came with a purple USB dongle looking thing.

Anyone have a clue what this card does? I can't seem to find anything about it on the web.

Here are some pictures of the card. It has a smaller daughtercard on the back of it as well.

You've probably know this but Kona and Matrox were popular video capture companies back in the 90's. But I haven't found specific model yet.

Hmmm.

I'd call Sonic.

They no doubt have likely changed hands over the years, but it looks like they were the first to offer HD format DAW of any kind at 24/96... video/audio app... in '96?

So that should have been back around your cards era....

The USB is for sure a dongle. Software key like the iLok (Looks like you probably scored free software ownership!)

I'd get techy on the phone at Sonic and see what it's for.

Sounds up your alley. Video/Audio

Could be slick for arranging scores?

Might work you around your QT issue

Not likely, that video codec didn't exist back in '99, or even 2004 when 6.4.1 was released.

John,

These look like part of the Sonic DVD Creator package to me. Not supported anymore. Pretty useless if You don't have missing components - audio card, external boxes etc. That dongle isn't much of a help either. Sonic systems used additional Key file that resided in System folder and that was generated on individual basis for each customer based on boards present, their serial numbers and software options purchased. I know that because I use some other SS products.

Cheers,

The BNC connectors can be for the Super/Wordclock signals.

Kind of what I figured. At that time I'm sure this was ridiculously expensive, but pretty much anyone can make a DVD now for very cheap.

And that's old news. Now for like $1500 you can make your own plastic toys and such with a 3d printer. It's the precursor to the star trek replicator.
