Well, it looks like BFD3 is now officially up for Pre-Order

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BFD3/

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BFD3upBFD2/

Looks like you can buy it on a 64GB flash drive instead of DVD's

What do you guys think of the interface? On first glance..... Its not really my style. It looks like the Tremor interface, which works great for Tremor, but I was hoping to actually see real drums for the kit view.

Having the mixer and even that style kit view is better than what we have now with 2. Won't know till I try, but I am looking forward to it.

Better in what way?

Its like BFD Eco which I also have and I much prefer the way BFD2 works over Eco.

Attachment 800

Having the option to show the mixer instead of cells would be a good idea, but I would like to retain the kit view we already have.

I don't know why they could not make the Kit view link to some .tiff images of real drums or realistic art work? For me, it all goes into the whole system. When I am working with acoustic drum samples, I like to see acoustic drums like you do in EZ Drummer, Superior, BFD2, Slate, Addictive, and even Strike.

I know some make the argument that "what does the interface have to do with how it sounds", but that is not the point. I'm sure it sounds great, all the major players sound great to me. But you could make the same point about Pro Tools, why do we need the hi-res graphics and meters, lets go back to the PT7 interface No one makes that argument, because while the UI does not effect the sound, it does effect your experience.

TO BE CLEAR, I HAVE NOT USED BFD3

So everything I am saying is based on the one pic. To me it looks as if they went backwards. The Kit view produces the feeling of "electronic drums"
when I look at it, while if I look at BFD2, Superior, Addictive, I get the feeling of acoustic drums, its simply a mind set I like to be in.

To me, creating drum tracks, songs, and mixing is art, and having the visual there is part of the process to me, it may not be for others. I guess I could just look at my drum set while I mix

And I could be totally wrong, maybe there is a preference somewhere for using other images or maybe I can modify an XML file, like I said I have not used it

This style interface works great for Tremor, which I have and love. The interface "feels" like you will be working with electronic synthesized drums
tremor_intef.jpg

But for acoustic drums, I would like to have the option to see something more realistic.

BFD2_interf.jpg

Another example would be an EQ, Compressor, Reverb. When an EQ, Comp, 'Verb is based on a hardware model, many times the interface will also look similar vs. just doing a standard gray interface with some text and sliders like the old D-Verb

old_Dverb.jpg

I wonder when/if we will get to demo this? I was super pumped to order the pre-order, but with this interface I'm apprehensive.

I think that new interface stinks looks like easy drummer or something ridiculous like that

If I wanted easy drummer I would go by easy drummer I prefer BFD two but in the end it's all about preference I believe

You are right, it is about preferences. I would not say it stinks, I just think it could be better.

I do like the modern appearance, it reminds me of Windows 8 (which is a compliment from my point of view ) But I think it would be even better with realistic images, I would also like the transport to be at the bottom like in Tremor.

I will have to wait for more images and a demo to really give an accurate opinion. I would like to know how the Groove Editor looks.

EDIT:
Just to add, I actually like the way EZ-Drummer looks. It looks like you are behind a real kit

Hi definition crud still looks like crud except at finer detail. This has to be a huge step backwards in gui design. I too was waiting with baited breath for BFD 3 but now - not so much.
